Position Highlights Position: Intensivist - Cardiac ICU Location: Naperville, Illinois Hospital: Edward Hospital (309-bed tertiary care hospital) ICU Type: Cardiac ICU (22 beds; co-located with a separate Neuro ICU service )
Schedule: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM Clinical Commitment: 162, 12-hour shifts annually = 1.0 FTE Night Shifts: None required A Brief Overview The purpose of this position is to provide high-quality, appropriate, and cost-effective critical care to patients in the Cardiac ICU, with a primary focus on post-cardiac surgery and complex cardiovascular disease. This role offers a daytime-only schedule within a highly collaborative and well-supported care model. About the Cardiac ICU 22-bed Cardiac-Neuro ICU (separate Neuro-ICU service) Average daily census: 12-14 patients Primary patient population includes: Post-open heart cardiac surgery patients Acute coronary syndromes, including STEMI Post-cardiac procedural patients Advanced heart failure Electrophysiology-related admissions Other complex cardiovascular disease states The Cardiac ICU is co-located with a Neuro ICU that is staffed and managed by a separate dedicated Neuro ICU team Staffing & Coverage Model Daytime coverage: In-house cardiac intensivist Dedicated APC support Monday-Friday 7a-5p Nighttime coverage: In-house APC coverage for 12-hour night shifts Overnight medical intensivist available for new admissions and acute medical concerns Cardiac intensivist available by phone as backup support as needed This structure provides strong overnight coverage while preserving a daytime-only intensivist role What You Will Do Provide comprehensive critical care management for post-cardiac surgery and complex cardiology patients Lead multidisciplinary rounds for Cardiac ICU patients Collaborate closely with: Cardiac surgery Cardiology (interventional, heart failure, electrophysiology) APC colleagues and ICU nursing staff Evaluate, diagnose, and treat critically ill cardiovascular patients Supervise and support APCs involved in cardiac ICU care Exercise independent medical judgment in all aspects of patient care Order and interpret diagnostic studies, procedures, and therapeutic interventions Prescribe evidence-based therapies for critically ill cardiac patients Document patient care accurately and efficiently in Epic Participate in quality improvement, patient safety initiatives, and program development Contribute to education of staff, trainees, and learners as assigned What You Will Need MD or DO Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine Cardiac Critical Care, Pulmonary/Critical Care, Anesthesia Critical Care, or equivalent experience Board Certified or Board Eligible in Critical Care Medicine Active Illinois medical license (or ability to obtain) Current DEA registration ACLS certification Strong communication skills and ability to work within a multidisciplinary cardiac care team Benefits Competitive

Requirements
Active RN license required.
1–2+ years of ICU/critical care experience.
BLS and ACLS required. CCRN preferred.
Ability to stand for long shifts, lift up to 50 lbs, and assist with patient transfers.
