About This Role
This oncology med-surg role at UAB Medicine's St. Vincent's East campus involves providing direct patient care on a dedicated unit serving cancer patients. You'll work three 12-hour shifts per week (7am-7pm), allowing for extended time away from the hospital. Day-to-day responsibilities include developing and managing patient care plans, monitoring vital signs and treatment responses, documenting clinical observations, and communicating updates with the medical team. You'll need strong assessment skills, the ability to work independently during shifts, and compassion for patients managing serious illness. This position suits nurses with med-surg or oncology experience who thrive in structured environments and prefer longer shifts with predictable scheduling. Requirements
Active RN license in good standing.
1+ year of clinical experience preferred; new grads considered for residency tracks.
BLS required. ACLS preferred for hospital roles.
Ability to stand for long shifts, lift up to 50 lbs, and assist with patient transfers.

Implement and monitor patient care plans. Monitor, record and communicate patient condition as appropriate. Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care. Note and carry out physician and nursing orders. Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team. What You Will Need Licensure / Certification / Registration: BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted. Currently licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.
