Job Description
Frisbie Memorial Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse Senior Mental Health professional to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our Emergency Department. As a comprehensive healthcare facility, Frisbie Memorial Hospital is committed to serving the community with a full spectrum of medical services—from emergency care to specialized treatments—and we are looking for a compassionate, clinically strong nurse to help us deliver exceptional mental health care to patients in crisis. In this senior mental health nursing role, you will provide expert psychiatric and behavioral health care to patients presenting to the ER with a wide range of acute mental health needs, including mood disorders, psychosis, substance use–related crises, self-harm, and other behavioral emergencies. You will conduct thorough mental health assessments, participate in triage, and collaborate closely with emergency medicine physicians, psychiatrists, social workers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized, evidence-based care plans. You will play a key role in crisis stabilization, de-escalation, safety planning, and disposition, ensuring that each patient receives timely, respectful, and appropriate care. Working in our supportive, teamwork-focused environment, you will serve as a clinical resource and mentor for other nurses and support staff, modeling best practices in trauma-informed care, therapeutic communication, and safe management of agitated or high‑risk patients. Daily responsibilities include continuous monitoring of patient status, administering and titrating medications (including psychotropic agents) as ordered, performing suicide and violence risk assessments, documenting thoroughly and accurately in the electronic health record, and coordinating with inpatient psychiatric units, community providers, and families to support safe transitions of care. You will uphold high standards of patient and staff safety by following established protocols for restraint and seclusion, elopement prevention, and infection control, while advocating for a calm, respectful, and dignified environment for patients in emotional distress. You will educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, medications, coping strategies, and available community resources, helping to reduce stigma and empower individuals to engage actively in their own recovery. Frisbie Memorial Hospital offers an environment where compassionate care and professional growth go hand in hand. As a Registered Nurse Senior Mental Health in our ER, you will have opportunities to expand your expertise through ongoing training in emergency and psychiatric nursing, participate in quality improvement and policy development related to behavioral health care, and take on leadership responsibilities within the department as your skills advance. If you are a skilled mental health or emergency nurse who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative setting and is committed to making a meaningful difference for patients experiencing psychiatric crisis, we invite you to consider this opportunity with Frisbie Memorial Hospital.
