Frequently asked questions
How does per diem nursing work?
Per diem nurses pick up shifts as needed without a fixed weekly schedule. You commit to a minimum number of shifts per month and choose dates that fit your availability.
Does per diem pay more than staff?
Yes — per diem hourly rates are typically 20–40% higher than staff rates because there are no benefits or guaranteed hours.
Are benefits included?
Most per diem roles do not include health benefits or PTO; the higher hourly rate is meant to offset that. Some hospitals offer limited benefits at higher commitment tiers.
