Job Description

Overview: Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Department Location: Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, ME Full-time | Nights | 7p–7a | 12-Hour Shifts The Registered Nurse (RN) provides safe, patient-centered care utilizing the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation) in a fast-paced Emergency Department (ED). Responsible for direct patient care, rapid assessment, triage, emergency response, and critical clinical decision-making. Responsibilities: Deliver direct patient care in the Emergency Department (ED) Perform rapid assessment, triage, and prioritization of care Respond to acute changes, trauma, and life-threatening conditions Interpret labs, diagnostics, and patient symptoms Communicate patient status with physicians and interdisciplinary teams Administer medications, IV therapy, and emergency treatments Educate patients and families on care and discharge instructions Ensure compliance with EMTALA, HIPAA, and patient safety standards Report suspected abuse/neglect per regulatory requirements Maintain accurate, timely documentation Qualifications: EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING
- Current and valid state RN License.
- Current BLS certificate upon hire and maintain current.
- Current ACLS certificate 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
- Current PALS certificate and/or ENPC 30 days upon hire and maintain current.
- Basic Arrythmia Interpretation within 30 days of hire.
- Minimum of one year experience as a staff nurse RN in an acute care hospital setting; E.R. setting preferred.
- Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Facility Specific Requirements (facility may require items listed below):
- In Paramedic Base Station ED: MICN within 12 months of hire and maintain current.
- EDAP certified facilities: Completion of emergency pediatric course 1 and 2 within 6 months of hire.
- Non-OB facilities: NRP certificate 90 days upon hire and maintain current.
