Job Description
UF Health is seeking a dedicated and experienced RN 3-12 to join our Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU) in Gainesville, Florida, working full time on the night shift. As a member of a leading academic health center, you will provide highly specialized, family-centered care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents with complex congenital and acquired heart disease, often in the immediate post-operative period. In this role, you will function as an advanced bedside clinician, assuming responsibility for comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for high-acuity pediatric cardiac patients. You will manage hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator support, complex medication infusions, central and arterial lines, and advanced therapies in collaboration with intensivists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team. You will be expected to recognize subtle changes in patient condition, respond rapidly to emergencies, and participate in resuscitation and stabilization efforts on the unit. Working three 12-hour night shifts per week, you will provide continuous, vigilant monitoring of pediatric cardiac ICU patients, ensuring accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, safe administration of high-risk medications, adherence to evidence-based protocols, and rigorous infection prevention practices. You will play a key role in educating and supporting patients’ families, explaining complex conditions and treatments in understandable terms, involving them in care decisions, and helping them navigate the stress of a critical care environment. As part of UF Health’s collaborative and inclusive culture, you will actively participate in interdisciplinary rounds, contribute to quality improvement initiatives, and support a culture of safety and continuous learning. You may serve as a preceptor or resource nurse for newer staff, share best practices in pediatric cardiac critical care, and engage in ongoing professional development, including unit-based education, simulation, and specialty certification opportunities. UF Health offers the opportunity to practice at the forefront of pediatric cardiac care, combining cutting-edge technology with compassionate, patient-centered nursing. You will be supported by a team that values innovation, diversity, and mutual respect, with access to continuing education, academic resources, and pathways for career advancement within the organization. This position is ideal for a skilled pediatric or critical care nurse who is passionate about caring for vulnerable children and their families, thrives in a fast-paced ICU environment, and is committed to excellence in clinical practice and lifelong learning. This is a full-time, on-site position in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU at UF Health in Gainesville, Florida, with a primary schedule of night shifts (3x12). UF Health provides a competitive compensation and benefits package, including comprehensive health coverage, retirement options, and programs that support your well-being and professional growth.
